The Open Canoe Sailing Group are having this years nationals meet at Castle Archdale on Lower Lough Erne - 12 th to 18 th August. Canoes are a mix of custom built sailing canoes (including proas, trimerans and fully decked boats) to production paddling canoes and kayaks with fitted rig and leeboard. Meets are a mixture of cruising and racing, our only class rule for racing is a maximum sail area of 44sq. ft. (which has been bent on occasion) and while some boats are set up for performance most members are more cruising orientated.
We will be based at the Group Camp Site at Castle Archdale (just inside the entrance, turn left) and launching from the beach at Dunross Bay (next left) - not at the marina or caravan park. Castle Archdale is on the north shore of Lower Lough Erne, 8 miles from Enniskillen on the road to Kesh.
Anyone with an interest in canoe sailing is welcome to come along (and participate). Subject to weather conditions we will be racing on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday with general pottering about and cruising on other days. There should be a good contingent from across the water and we are hoping that some of the Swedes and Norwegians may come. If you are interested in fitting out a canoe then Solway Dory, who make sailing rigs and canoes, will be there.
